The Process

Pete's work is all hand drawn, yet digitally based, making it a blend of old and the new processes. Most of the artwork begins as loose pencil, or pen and marker sketches on paper. Yet often these days - with the use of a Wacom Cintiq monitor which allows sketching straight onto the screen - Pete sketches directly into programmes such as Photo-shop and Painter. The Cintiq sketch monitor speeds up the work flow as well as creating a realistic artistic interface. Using virtual sketch pencils, outline pens, as well as watercolour, oil, and air brushes to create the final work.

Regardless of the medium, the point is to sketch quickly and freely, to generate creative ideas that can be developed and explored further. His detailed artwork and illustrations are then finished to a level that uses a technique of loose digital brush work combined with finite detailed path masking and rendering.
